मक्कल निधि मैयम (एमएनएम) के अध्यक्ष कमल हासन ने राज्य के राजनीतिक इतिहास के उदाहरणों का हवाला देते हुए इस बात पर जोर दिया कि तमिलनाडु ने लंबे समय से विविधतापूर्ण नेतृत्व को अपनाया है।

उन्होंने तमिलनाडु की राजनीतिक विरासत की समावेशिता पर प्रकाश डालते हुए कहा कि तमिलनाडु एक ऐसा राज्य है जहाँ मेनन हमारे मुख्यमंत्री रहे हैं, रेड्डी हमारे मुख्यमंत्री रहे हैं, तमिल हमारे मुख्यमंत्री रहे हैं और कन्नड़ अयंगर हमारे मुख्यमंत्री रहे हैं। हासन ने भाषा की उत्पत्ति के बारे में बयान देने में राजनेताओं से संयम बरतने का आह्वान किया और कहा कि ऐसे मामलों को क्षेत्र के विशेषज्ञों पर छोड़ देना चाहिए। राजनेता भाषा के बारे में बात करने के लिए योग्य नहीं हैं। उनके पास इस बारे में बात करने की योग्यता नहीं है, जिसमें मैं भी शामिल हूँ। आइए हम इन सभी गहन चर्चाओं को इतिहासकारों, पुरातत्वविदों और भाषा विशेषज्ञों पर छोड़ दें। 

कर्नाटक के मुख्यमंत्री सिद्धारमैया ने बुधवार को कमल हासन पर उनके “कन्नड़ का जन्म तमिल से हुआ है” वाले बयान को लेकर कटाक्ष करते हुए कहा कि अभिनेता को भाषा के लंबे इतिहास की जानकारी नहीं है। एएनआई के अनुसार कर्नाटक के सीएम सिद्धारमैया ने कहा कन्नड़ का इतिहास बहुत पुराना है। बेचारे कमल हासन को इसकी जानकारी ही नहीं है। चेन्नई में अपनी आगामी फिल्म ‘ठग लाइफ’ के ऑडियो लॉन्च के अवसर पर कमल हासन द्वारा यह दावा किए जाने के बाद विवाद खड़ा हो गया कि ‘तमिल से कन्नड़ भाषा का जन्म हुआ।’
