दार्जिलिंग से भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) के विधायक नीरज जिम्बा ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी को पत्र लिखकर लंबे समय से चले आ रहे गोरखालैंड मुद्दे के स्थायी राजनीतिक समाधान के लिए तत्काल बातचीत शुरू करने का आग्रह किया है। अपने पत्र में जिम्बा ने प्रधानमंत्री मोदी द्वारा भारतीय गोरखाओं से किए गए वादों को पूरा करने की मांग की है, साथ ही समुदाय के भीतर बढ़ते मोहभंग को भी उजागर किया है। जिम्बा लिखते हैं, “इतिहास आपको न केवल गोरखा सपने की बात करने वाले प्रधानमंत्री के रूप में याद रखे, बल्कि उसे पूरा करने वाले नेता के रूप में भी याद रखे। यह दर्ज किया जाना चाहिए कि इस निर्णायक क्षण में, जब लाखों लोगों का भाग्य आपके हाथों में था, आपने देरी के बजाय न्याय, उदासीनता के बजाय कार्रवाई और सुविधा के बजाय सत्य को चुना।

उन्होंने दार्जिलिंग हिल्स और आस-पास के क्षेत्रों की भू-राजनीतिक कमज़ोरियों पर प्रकाश डालते हुए चेतावनी दी, दार्जिलिंग हिल्स और उसके आस-पास के क्षेत्र अपनी कमज़ोर भू-राजनीतिक स्थिति के कारण धीरे-धीरे संदिग्ध ताकतों और तत्वों का केंद्र बनते जा रहे हैं। राजनीतिक समाधान और सहभागिता की कमी ने एक ख़तरनाक शून्य पैदा कर दिया है जिसका अब फ़ायदा उठाया जा रहा है। यह अत्यंत राष्ट्रीय चिंता का विषय है।
