विदेश मंत्रालय ने एक बयान में कहा कि बैठक के दौरान दोनों नेताओं ने भारत और मॉरीशस के बीच विशेष और घनिष्ठ द्विपक्षीय संबंधों को गहरा करने पर विचारों का आदान-प्रदान किया। विदेश मंत्रालय के अनुसार, उन्होंने दोनों देशों के बीच साझा इतिहास और दोनों देशों के लोगों के बीच मजबूत संबंधों को याद किया।

मॉरीशस के प्रधानमंत्री ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी के लिए अपने सर्वोच्च सम्मान ग्रैंड कमांडर ऑफ द ऑर्डर ऑफ द स्टार एंड की ऑफ द इंडियन ओशन की घोषणा की है। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी यह सम्मान पाने वाले पहले भारतीय हैं। यह किसी देश द्वारा प्रधानमंत्री मोदी को दिया जाने वाला 21वां अंतरराष्ट्रीय पुरस्कार है। प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्द्र मोदी ने मॉरीशस के राष्ट्रपति धरम गोखुल से मुलाकात की तथा दोनों नेताओं ने खास एवं घनिष्ठ द्विपक्षीय संबंधों को और मजबूत बनाने पर चर्चा की। मंगलवार सुबह दो दिवसीय राजकीय यात्रा पर मॉरीशस पहुंचे प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने ‘स्टेट हाउस’ में गोखुल से मुलाकात की। मोदी ने ‘एक्स’ पर पोस्ट किया कि मॉरीशस के राष्ट्रपति महामहिम श्री धरमबीर गोखुल के साथ बहुत अच्छी बैठक हुई। वह भारत और भारतीय संस्कृति से अच्छी तरह परिचित हैं। मॉरीशस के राष्ट्रीय दिवस समारोह का हिस्सा बनने के लिए आमंत्रित करने को लेकर मैंने आभार व्यक्त किया। हमने विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में द्विपक्षीय संबंधों को और बढ़ावा देने के तौर-तरीकों पर चर्चा की।

प्रधानमंत्री ने राष्ट्रपति गोखुल की धर्मपत्नी को सादेली शिल्पकला युक्त बक्से में बनारसी रेशमी साड़ी भेंट की। वाराणसी से आने वाली बनारसी साड़ी एक सांस्कृतिक विरासत है जो अपने बेहतरीन रेशम, खूबसूरत जरी और कसीदाकारी’ के काम के लिए जानी जाती है, जबकि गुजरात की सादेली शिल्प कला में सागौन की उम्दा लकड़ी पर पच्चीकारी की जाती है। वार्ता के बाद राष्ट्रपति गोखुल ने प्रधानमंत्री मोदी के सम्मान में राजकीय भोज दिया। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने ‘स्टेट हाउस’ में आयुर्वेद उद्यान का भी दौरा किया, जिसे भारत सरकार के सहयोग से स्थापित किया गया है।
