इस बीच, नेशनल पीपुल्स पार्टी (एनपीपी) के कार्यकारी अध्यक्ष शेख नूरुल हसन ने एनडीए गठबंधन को समर्थन की पुष्टि करते हुए कहा कि उन्होंने बीरेन सिंह की सरकार से समर्थन वापस ले लिया क्योंकि वह राज्य में सामान्य स्थिति और शांति बहाल करने में विफल रहे। शेख नूरुल हसन ने संवाददाताओं से कहा, “एनपीपी ने एन बीरेन सिंह सरकार से समर्थन वापस ले लिया है। मणिपुर में सामान्य स्थिति और शांति बहाल करने में उनकी विफलता के कारण हमें उनके नेतृत्व पर विश्वास नहीं है। सीएम पद से उनका इस्तीफा राज्य में शांति और सामान्य स्थिति बहाल करने की दिशा में एक स्वागत योग्य कदम है। हम केंद्र में एनडीए गठबंधन का हिस्सा हैं, हम हमेशा राज्य में सामान्य स्थिति लाने के लिए एनडीए के हिस्से के रूप में भाजपा के साथ सहयोग और काम करेंगे।”

रविवार को मणिपुर के सीएम सिंह ने राज्य में हिंसा के करीब दो साल बाद राजभवन में राज्यपाल अजय कुमार भल्ला को अपना इस्तीफा सौंप दिया। उनके साथ भाजपा अध्यक्ष ए.शारदा, भाजपा के पूर्वोत्तर मणिपुर प्रभारी संबित पात्रा समेत कम से कम 19 विधायक भी थे। सिंह ने अपने त्याग पत्र में कहा, “मणिपुर के लोगों की सेवा करना अब तक सम्मान की बात रही है।” उन्होंने पत्र में आगे कहा, “मैं प्रत्येक मणिपुरी के हितों की रक्षा के लिए समय पर कार्रवाई, हस्तक्षेप, विकासात्मक कार्य और विभिन्न परियोजनाओं के कार्यान्वयन के लिए केंद्र सरकार का बेहद आभारी हूं।”
