जम्मू-कश्मीर में पहलगाम आतंकी हमले के बाद सीमा पर सख्त प्रतिबंधों के बीच केंद्र सरकार ने भारत में फंसे पाकिस्तानी नागरिकों को राहत देते हुए उन्हें अटारी सीमा के रास्ते अपने देश लौटने की अनुमति दे दी है। यह कदम ऐसे समय उठाया गया है जब पहले 1 मई से सीमा पार सभी तरह की आवाजाही और व्यापार पूरी तरह से बंद करने का आदेश दिया गया था। केंद्रीय गृह मंत्रालय ने पहले अटारी सीमा पर सभी नागरिक और वाणिज्यिक गतिविधियों को रोकने का निर्देश जारी किया था, जिससे पारगमन में पकड़े गए लोगों, विशेष रूप से वैध यात्रा दस्तावेजों वाले पाकिस्तानी नागरिकों के बीच चिंता पैदा हो गई थी। 

हालांकि, मानवीय संवेदनशीलता दिखाते हुए, भारत सरकार ने अब वैध कारणों से घर लौटने की जरूरत वाले पाकिस्तानी नागरिकों के लिए सीमा को खुला रखने की अनुमति दी है। गुरुवार की सुबह अटारी सीमा पर कई लोग आए थे, लेकिन उन्हें संशोधित आवागमन स्थिति के बारे में पता नहीं था। औपचारिक संचार की कमी के कारण सीमा सुरक्षा बल (बीएसएफ) ने शुरू में उनके जाने को रोक दिया था, लेकिन अधिकारियों से नवीनतम मंजूरी के साथ, उनके जाने की प्रक्रिया अब फिर से शुरू हो गई है। 

संशोधित आदेश लागू होने के बाद, सीमा पर मौजूद पाकिस्तानी नागरिकों ने राहत और आभार व्यक्त किया, क्योंकि उन्हें एक बार फिर जाने की अनुमति मिल गई है। कड़ी सुरक्षा व्यवस्था के बीच, 24 अप्रैल से 30 अप्रैल की अवधि के दौरान बड़ी संख्या में भारतीय और पाकिस्तानी नागरिक दोनों देशों के बीच की सीमाओं को पार कर गए। आधिकारिक आंकड़ों के अनुसार, पिछले एक सप्ताह में कुल 926 पाकिस्तानी नागरिक अपने देश लौट आए, जबकि 1,841 भारतीय नागरिक भारत वापस आए। पहलगाम में हुए आतंकवादी हमले के बाद, जिसमें 26 निर्दोष लोग मारे गए थे, भारत ने कई कदम उठाए, जिनमें अटारी भूमि-पारगमन चौकी को तत्काल बंद करना भी शामिल था, जिसका उपयोग कुछ प्रकार के सामानों की आवाजाही के लिए किया जाता था।
