पश्चिम बंगाल विधानसभा में आईएसएफ के एकमात्र विधायक सिद्दीकी एक स्थानीय बंगाली समाचार पोर्टल को दिए साक्षात्कार में कहा कि अभिषेक बनर्जी सहित कई टीएमसी सांसदों ने वक्फ विधेयक पर बहस में हिस्सा नहीं लिया और उन्होंने पूछा कि क्या पार्टी ने ऐसे सांसदों के खिलाफ कोई कार्रवाई की है। क्या अभिषेक बनर्जी संसद में मौजूद थे? मैं काफी समय से वीडियो देख रहा था। मैं यह जानने की कोशिश कर रहा हूं कि तृणमूल के कितने सांसद संसद में मौजूद थे और कितने अनुपस्थित थे। क्या कार्रवाई की गई?
तृणमूल कांग्रेस (टीएमसी) के महासचिव अभिषेक बनर्जी ने इंडियन सेक्युलर फ्रंट (आईएसएफ) के विधायक नौहाद सिद्दीकी पर यह दावा करने के लिए निशाना साधा है कि डायमंड हार्बर के सांसद और टीएमसी के अन्य विधायक इस सप्ताह की शुरुआत में संसद में वक्फ (संशोधन) विधेयक पर चर्चा और मतदान का हिस्सा नहीं थे। बनर्जी ने सिद्दीकी की टिप्पणी को झूठा करार दिया और उनसे इसे वापस लेने को कहा। साथ ही चेतावनी दी कि अगर वह 48 घंटे के भीतर ऐसा करने में विफल रहे तो उनके खिलाफ कड़ी से कड़ी कानूनी कार्रवाई की जाएगी।
वक्फ विधेयक गुरुवार को राज्यसभा में 128-95 मतों से पारित हो गया, जबकि एक दिन पहले लोकसभा में इसके पक्ष में 288 मत पड़े थे, जबकि इसके खिलाफ 232 सांसदों ने मतदान किया था। अभिषेक बनर्जी के वकील संजय बसु ने नौशाद को दिए गए नोटिस में कहा यह ध्यान देने योग्य बात है कि आपने मेरे मुवक्किल के खिलाफ झूठ फैलाने और गलत तथा भ्रामक बयान देने का विकल्प चुना है, ताकि मुस्लिम आबादी और पश्चिम बंगाल के लोगों को यह विश्वास दिलाया जा सके कि मेरे मुवक्किल उस समय लोकसभा में मौजूद नहीं थे, जब मतदान प्रक्रिया चल रही थी।
