मुकाबला शुरु होने पर मैच आरसीबी के पलड़े में लग रहा था और काफी सेट ता। फिर विराट कोहली और फिल सॉल्ट के बीच रन बनाते हुए रन बन रहे थे। दोनों अच्छी पार्टनरशिप की ओर बढ़ रहे थे मगर 17 गेंदों में 37 रन बनाने वाले फिल अचानक आउट हो गए। फिल के आउट होने पर आरसीबी का स्कोर 3.5 ओवर में 61/1 पर बना हुआ था।
रॉयल चैलेंजर्स बेंगलुरु (आरसीबी) और दिल्ली कैपिटल्स (डीसी) के बीच हुए मुकाबले में दिल्ली को जीत मिली है। इस मैच में रॉयल चैलेंजर्स बेंगलुरु की हार का कारण खुद टीम रही है। अपने होमग्राउंड चिन्नास्वामी स्टेडियम में खेले गए इस मुकाबले में आरसीबी ने पहले बल्लेबाजी करते हुए उन्होंने महज 18 गेंद में 50 रन जड़े।

इस विकेट के गिरने के बाद आरसीबी की कहानी आयाराम गयाराम जैसी हुई। आरसीबी आगे बढ़ते हुए 91 रन के स्कोर पर चार विकेट खो चुकी थी। इन विकटों में देवदत्त पडिक्कल (1), विराट कोहली (22 ) लियाम लिविंस्टोन (4) का विकेट शामिल रहा। आरसीबी का पांचवा विकेट जितेश शर्मा के रूप में गिरा जो तीन रन बनाकर पवेलियन लौटे। वहीं कप्तान रजत पाटीदार ने पारी को संभालने की कोशिश की। रजत पाटीगार ने 25 रन बनाए और छठा विकेट गंवा बैठे।
आरसीबी को क्रुणाल पंड्या और टिम डेविड ने बचाने की कोशिश की जिन्होंने पारी खत्म होने से पहले धमाकेदार बल्लेबाजी की और 18 व 37 रन बनाए। इस मैच में आरसीबी का मिडिल ऑर्डर बुरी तरह से फेल हुआ। आरसीबी को परेशान करने में दिल्ली के स्पिनर कुलदीप यादव और विप्राज निगम ने शानदार गेंदबाजी की। कुलदीप ने इस मैच में दो विकेट चटकाए और 17 रन दिए। वहीं निगम ने दो विकेट लिए।
आरसीबी ने इस मैच में 20 ओवर में 163 रन बनाए। दिल्ली अब रन चेज करने उतरी। शुरुआत में लगा कि बेंगलुरु इस मैच को आसानी से जीत लेगी और दिल्ली को टारगेट पाने नहीं देगी। मैच में फाफ डु प्लेसिस महज दो रन बनाकर यश दयाल का शिकार हो गए। जेक फ्रेजर मैकगर्क (7) और इम्पैक्ट सब अभिषेक पोरेल (7) भी भुवनेश्वर कुमार का शिकार हुए। दिल्ली के तीन विकेट काफी कम स्कोर पर पवेलियन पहुंच चुके थे। पांच ओवर में दिल्ली कैपिटल्स की 30 रन बनाकर तीन विकेट गंवा चुकी थी। इसके बाद अक्षर पटेल भी दम नहीं दिखा सके और महज 15 रन बनाकर पवेलियन लौटे। 58 रन पर दिल्ली चार विकेट गंवा चुकी थी।
इसके बाद केएल राहुल पिच पर आए और उन्होंने 93 रनों की धमाकेदार पारी खेली। मैच को संभालने के लिए उनका साथ ट्रिस्टन स्टब्स(38) ने दिया। दोनों के बीच 111 रनों की मैच विनिंग पार्टनरशिप देखने को मिली थी। दोनों की पार्टनरशिप की बदौलत इस पूरे मैच का रुख बदल गया। आरसीबी के गेंदबाज इस पार्टनरशिप को तोड़ नहीं सके और मैच उनके हाथ से निकल गया। बता दें कि केएल राहुल को दिल्ली कैपिटल्स ने 14 करोड़ रुपये में खरीदा था और इस बार वो जबरदस्त फॉर्म में बने हुए है। तीन मुकाबलों में उनके बल्ले से 185 रन निकले है। चेन्नई के खिलाफ भी केएल राहुल ने मैच विनिंग पारी खेली थी।
