ममता बनर्जी ने रामनवमी की योजना पर भी भाजपा की आलोचना की। उन्होंने कहा, “केंद्र ने गरीबों के लिए सभी काम बंद कर दिए हैं। फिर केंद्र सरकार क्यों है? क्या यह एक नया धर्म शुरू करने के लिए है जिसमें रामकृष्ण, स्वामी विवेकानंद और हमारे वेद शामिल नहीं हैं? क्या यह लोगों, देश को विभाजित करने और दंगे भड़काने के लिए है?” उन्होंने लोगों से आग्रह किया, “मैं सभी धर्मों से आग्रह कर रही हूं। अपने त्योहार शांतिपूर्वक मनाएं। दंगा न करें और दंगा भड़काने की कोशिश भी न करें। आप दंगा भड़काने के लिए कुछ नहीं कर सकते। हम कार्रवाई करेंगे।”
ममता बनर्जी ने बुधवार को राज्य सरकार के मुख्यालय नबान्न में एक सम्मेलन आयोजित किया। वहां उन्होंने कहा, “मैं इसका कड़ा विरोध करती हूं। मैं (केंद्र से) इस फैसले को वापस लेने का अनुरोध करती हूं। हम 4 और 5 अप्रैल को शाम 4 से 5 बजे तक राज्य भर के हर ब्लॉक और हर नागरिक वार्ड में विरोध रैलियां और बैठकें करेंगे। मैं आम लोगों से विरोध करने का आग्रह करूंगी। अन्यथा केंद्र का यह एकतरफा फैसला स्वास्थ्य पर भारी पड़ेगा।”
इसके बाद उन्होंने केंद्र सरकार पर हमला करते हुए कहा, “अपनी ‘जुमलेबाजी’ को रोकने के लिए केंद्र सरकार को और कितने पैसे की जरूरत है। लोगों को अपने मेडिक्लेम में जीएसटी क्यों देना पड़ रहा है। गरीब लोग कहां जाएं। हम दवाइयों की कीमतों में बढ़ोतरी को बर्दाश्त नहीं कर सकते। मैं पार्टी के सांसदों से भी इसका विरोध करने का अनुरोध करती हूं। वे आज वक्फ बिल का विरोध कर रहे हैं। केंद्र सरकार हमारे संविधान का सम्मान नहीं कर रही है। वे हमारे देश को बांटना चाहते हैं।”
