तमिलनाडु के मुख्यमंत्री एमके स्टालिन ने राज्य विधानसभा में घोषणा की कि वह तमिलनाडु के सभी सांसदों के साथ परिसीमन के विवादास्पद मुद्दे पर प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी से मिलने की योजना बना रहे हैं। उन्होंने संसदीय निर्वाचन क्षेत्रों के अनुचित पुनर्वितरण के खिलाफ राज्य के एकजुट रुख में उनके समर्थन के लिए AIADMK और अन्य विपक्षी दलों के प्रति आभार भी व्यक्त किया। विधानसभा में बोलते हुए, सीएम स्टालिन ने याद किया कि तमिलनाडु सरकार ने आगामी परिसीमन प्रक्रिया पर चर्चा करने के लिए एक सर्वदलीय बैठक बुलाई थी।
इसके बाद, चेन्नई में एक संयुक्त कार्रवाई समिति की बैठक हुई, जिसमें प्रमुख नेताओं ने भाग लिया। तमिलनाडु की मुख्य मांग यह रही है कि परिसीमन की प्रक्रिया, जिससे उच्च जनसंख्या वृद्धि वाले राज्यों में संसदीय सीटों की संख्या में वृद्धि होने की उम्मीद है, तमिलनाडु जैसे राज्यों को दंडित नहीं किया जाना चाहिए, जिन्होंने अपनी जनसंख्या वृद्धि को सफलतापूर्वक नियंत्रित किया है। स्टालिन ने जोर देकर कहा, “हमने इस मुद्दे पर चेतावनी देते हुए इस विधानसभा में पहले ही एक प्रस्ताव पारित कर दिया है। हमने इस बात पर भी जोर दिया है कि परिसीमन प्रक्रिया को अगले 25 वर्षों के लिए स्थगित कर दिया जाना चाहिए।”
मुख्यमंत्री ने तर्क दिया कि उत्तरी राज्यों के लिए इस्तेमाल किए जाने वाले समान मानदंड तमिलनाडु पर भी लागू होने चाहिए। उन्होंने जोर देकर कहा कि जिन राज्यों ने जनसंख्या नियंत्रण नीतियों को प्रभावी ढंग से लागू किया है, उन्हें संसदीय प्रतिनिधित्व खोने का दंड नहीं दिया जाना चाहिए, जबकि अधिक जनसंख्या वृद्धि वाले राज्यों को अधिक सीटों से पुरस्कृत किया जाना चाहिए। स्टालिन ने जोर देकर कहा, “निष्पक्ष परिसीमन पर हमने जो जागरूकता अभियान शुरू किया है, उसका पहले ही देशव्यापी प्रभाव पड़ चुका है। यह केवल तमिलनाडु का मुद्दा नहीं है – यह संघीय न्याय और निष्पक्ष प्रतिनिधित्व के बारे में है।”
