जन्म और परिवार
हरियाणा के हिसार जिले में 17 मार्च 1990 में साइना नेहवाल का जन्म हुआ था। साइना की दादी को बेटा चाहिए था, जोकि उनके वंश को आगे बढ़ा सके। लेकिन जब साइना का जन्म हुआ तो उनकी दादी ने एक महीने तक उनका चेहरा नहीं देखा था। लेकिन साइना की मां उषा नेहवाल ने हमेशा अपनी बेटी का साथ दिया। दरअसल, साइना की मां भी बैडमिंटन प्लेयर थीं और राज्य स्तर पर बैडमिंटन खेली थीं। शुरूआत में साइना कराटे में अपना करियर बनाना चाहती थीं। लेकिन बाद में वह अपनी मां के नक्शे कदम पर चलते हुए 8 साल की उम्र में बैडमिंटन की रैकेट पकड़ ली।
बैडमिंटन टूर्नामेंट
शुरूआत में साइना नेहवाल ने हिसार में बैडमिंटन की ट्रेनिंग ली और फिर उन्होंने हैदराबाद के लाल बहादुर स्टेडियम में ट्रेनिंग लेने से शुरू की थी। कोच नानी प्रसाद की देखरेख में वह बहुत कम समय में सफलता पाने लगी। साल 2009 में साइना ने इंडोनेशिया ओपन सुपर सीरीज बैडमिंटन टूर्नामेंट का खिताब जीतकर बड़ी उपलब्धि हासिल की। बता दें कि यह खिताब पाने वाली साइना नेहवाल पहली भारतीय महिला खिलाड़ी थीं।
लंदन ओलंपिक
साल 2012 में लंदन ओलंपिक में भी साइना नेहवाल ने महिला के सिंगल्स इवेंट में ब्रॉन्ज मेडल जीतकर सनसनी मचा दी थी। इस ओलंपिक में वह मेडल जीतने वाली भारत की पहली महिला बैडमिंटन खिलाड़ी भी बनीं। उनके सामने बड़ी से बड़ी खिलाड़ी भी नहीं ठहर पाती थीं। उन्होंने कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स में भारत के लिए गोल्ड जीता। वह कॉमनवेल्थ गेम्स में दो गोल्ड मेडल जीतने वाली इकलौती भारतीय महिला खिलाड़ी हैं। साल 2018 में साइना नेहवाल ने मिक्स्ड प्रतियोगिता में सोने का तमगा हासिल किया था।
