तमिलनाडु के मुख्यमंत्री एमके स्टालिन ने शुक्रवार को बंगाल की ममता बनर्जी, पंजाब के भगवंत मान और भाजपा शासित ओडिशा के मोहन चंद्र माझी सहित सात समकक्षों से केंद्र द्वारा प्रस्तावित परिसीमन अभ्यास के खिलाफ राजनीतिक दलों की ‘संयुक्त कार्रवाई समिति’ में शामिल होने का आह्वान किया। उन्होंने केरल के पिनाराई विजयन, कर्नाटक के सिद्धारमैया, तेलंगाना के रेवंत रेड्डी, आंध्र प्रदेश के चंद्रबाबू नायडू के साथ-साथ इन राज्यों में गैर-सत्तारूढ़ दलों और भाजपा के वरिष्ठ राजनेताओं को 22 मार्च को चेन्नई में एक बैठक में “सामूहिक पाठ्यक्रम तैयार करने” के लिए कहा है।

स्टालिन की प्रस्तावित बैठक में बाद की चिंता को संबोधित करने की उम्मीद है, जिसके बारे में तमिलनाडु के नेता ने चेतावनी दी कि इससे उन राज्यों का प्रभाव कम हो सकता है जो जनसंख्या के स्तर को नियंत्रित करने में कामयाब रहे हैं। अपने पत्र में, उन्होंने बताया कि 1976 के बाद परिसीमन अभ्यास को 2002 के संशोधन द्वारा रोक दिया गया था, जब भाजपा के अटल बिहारी वाजपेयी प्रधान मंत्री थे – जिसमें कहा गया था कि लोकसभा सीटों की कुल संख्या में परिवर्तन – अब 543 – कम से कम 2026 तक स्थगित रहेगा।
