केरल और गुजरात के बाद भारत में तीसरे सबसे अधिक सक्रिय कोविड मामले वाले पश्चिम बंगाल के रूप में, मुख्यमंत्री ममता बनर्जी ने राज्य में तैयारियों का जायजा लेने के लिए सोमवार को शीर्ष सरकारी अधिकारियों और विशेषज्ञों के साथ बैठक की। बैठक के बाद राज्य सचिवालय में मीडियाकर्मियों से बात करते हुए बनर्जी ने कहा कि हमने आज एक बैठक की ताकि हम तैयार रह सकें। बैठक में विभिन्न विभागों के वरिष्ठ अधिकारियों के साथ-साथ क्षेत्र के विशेषज्ञ भी शामिल हुए। हमें उम्मीद है कि कोई और महामारी नहीं होगी। हमें सतर्क रहने की जरूरत है। लेकिन घबराने की कोई जरूरत नहीं है।

कोलकाता के इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ पोस्ट ग्रेजुएट मेडिकल एजुकेशन एंड रिसर्च में संक्रामक रोग विभाग के प्रमुख डॉ. योगीराज रे ने कहा, “अभी तक इसे ‘चिंता का विषय’ नहीं माना गया है। इस सबवेरिएंट से सामान्य इन्फ्लूएंजा जैसी खांसी और जुकाम होने की संभावना है। हमें उम्मीद है कि यह लहर तेजी से फैलेगी और फिर जल्दी ही खत्म हो जाएगी।” हालांकि, बनर्जी ने कहा कि सरकार अभी कोई दिशानिर्देश जारी नहीं कर रही है या प्रतिबंध नहीं लगा रही है।
