सिंधु जल संधि पर संयुक्त राष्ट्र में पाकिस्तान के दुष्प्रचार की धज्जियाँ उड़ाते हुए भारत ने कहा कि इस्लामाबाद ने भारत पर तीन युद्ध और हज़ारों आतंकी हमले करके अपनी भावना का उल्लंघन किया है, जिसका उद्देश्य नागरिकों के जीवन, धार्मिक सद्भाव और आर्थिक समृद्धि को बंधक बनाना है। संयुक्त राष्ट्र में भारत के स्थायी प्रतिनिधि, राजदूत पार्वथानेनी हरीश ने कहा कि हम सिंधु जल संधि के बारे में पाकिस्तान के प्रतिनिधिमंडल द्वारा किए जा रहे दुष्प्रचार का जवाब देने के लिए बाध्य हैं। भारत ने हमेशा एक ऊपरी तटवर्ती राज्य के रूप में जिम्मेदारी से काम किया है। हरीश स्लोवेनिया के स्थायी मिशन द्वारा ‘सशस्त्र संघर्ष में जल की रक्षा – नागरिक जीवन की रक्षा’ पर आयोजित संयुक्त राष्ट्र सुरक्षा परिषद अरिया फॉर्मूला बैठक को संबोधित कर रहे थे।

भारतीय राजदूत ने रेखांकित किया कि पिछले चार दशकों में, आतंकवादी हमलों में 20,000 से अधिक भारतीय मारे गए हैं, जिनमें से सबसे हालिया हमला पहलगाम में पर्यटकों पर किया गया नृशंस आतंकवादी हमला था। यद्यपि भारत ने इस अवधि के दौरान असाधारण धैर्य और उदारता दिखाई है, हरीश ने कहा कि पाकिस्तान द्वारा भारत में प्रायोजित सीमा पार आतंकवाद नागरिकों के जीवन, धार्मिक सद्भाव और आर्थिक समृद्धि को बंधक बनाने का प्रयास करता है। हरीश ने बताया कि भारत ने पिछले दो वर्षों में कई मौकों पर औपचारिक रूप से पाकिस्तान से संधि के संशोधनों पर चर्चा करने के लिए कहा है, लेकिन इस्लामाबाद इनसे इनकार करता रहा है।
