राष्ट्रीय महिला आयोग (एनसीडब्ल्यू) की अध्यक्ष विजया रहाटकर ने मालदा जिले के एक आश्रय गृह में मुर्शिदाबाद हिंसा से प्रभावित परिवारों से मुलाकात की। उन्होंने कहा कि मैंने शिविर में महिलाओं और बच्चों से मुलाकात की और उन्होंने मेरे साथ अपने अनुभव साझा किए। महिलाओं को बहुत कष्ट सहना पड़ा है, उनके घर जला दिए गए, उन्हें बलपूर्वक उनके घरों से निकाल दिया गया, उनके साथ यौन उत्पीड़न भी किया गया। उन्होने आगे कहा कि महिलाओं के प्रति सभी को संवेदनशील होना चाहिए और यह संवेदनशीलता ही महिलाओं को न्याय दिला सकती है। इस तरह की स्थिति तब पैदा होती है जब संवेदनशीलता का अभाव होता है।
विजया रहाटकर ने कहा कि हम उनकी सुरक्षा के लिए तब तक काम करेंगे जब तक उन्हें यह नहीं मिल जाता। हम इन सभी महिलाओं के लिए बहुत चिंतित हैं, और हम चाहते हैं कि उन्हें उचित आश्रय मिले। हम पीड़ित महिलाओं से बात करेंगे, हम उनके साथ चर्चा करेंगे। वहीं, बंगाल रवाना होने से पहले उन्होंने कहा था कि यहां भड़की सांप्रदायिक हिंसा के बाद यहां की महिलाएं बहुत डरी हुई हैं। एनसीडब्ल्यू ने इस पर संज्ञान लिया है और हमने एक जांच समिति गठित की है। मैं भी जांच समिति का हिस्सा हूं। अगले तीन दिनों में हम इन (हिंसा प्रभावित) इलाकों में जाएंगे। हम मालदा और मुर्शिदाबाद जाएंगे। हम वहां पीड़ित महिलाओं से मिलेंगे और उनसे बातचीत करेंगे।
एनएचआरसी ने हाल में मुर्शिदाबाद में वक्फ (संशोधन) अधिनियम के विरोध में भड़की हिंसा का स्वत: संज्ञान लिया था। एनएचआरसी सदस्यों ने मालदा के पार लालपुर हाई स्कूल में शिविर में रह रहे प्रभावित परिवारों के सदस्यों से बात की। हिंसा का स्वत: संज्ञान लेने वाले आयोग ने कहा कि उसने ‘‘स्थिति की गंभीरता’’ को देखते हुए एक तथ्यान्वेषी दल भेजने का फैसला किया है और तीन सप्ताह के भीतर एक विस्तृत जांच रिपोर्ट मांगी है। अधिकारियों ने पुष्टि की कि मुर्शिदाबाद जिले के शमशेरगंज, सुती, धुलियान और जंगीपुर जैसे मुस्लिम बहुल इलाकों में फैली हिंसा में तीन लोग मारे गए हैं।
