भारतीय रिजर्व बैंक (आरबीआई) के पूर्व गवर्नर शक्तिकांत दास को प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी का ‘प्रधान सचिव-2’ नियुक्त किया गया है। केंद्र सरकार के एक परिपत्र में कहा गया है कि कैबिनेट की नियुक्ति समिति ने शक्तिकांत दास, आईएएस (सेवानिवृत्त) को प्रधान मंत्री के प्रधान सचिव -2 के रूप में उनके पदभार ग्रहण करने की तारीख से नियुक्ति को मंजूरी दे दी है। इसमें कहा गया है कि उनकी नियुक्ति प्रधानमंत्री के कार्यकाल के साथ “सह-समाप्ति” या अगले आदेश तक रहेगी।

वह आर्थिक मामलों के सचिव थे जब सरकार ने नवंबर 2016 में अचानक उच्च मूल्य वाले मुद्रा नोटों को बंद कर दिया था। दास ने तब महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाई जब कई अप्रत्यक्ष करों को एक जीएसटी में विलय कर दिया गया, जो 1 जुलाई, 2017 को लागू हुआ। शक्तिकांत दास ने छह साल तक आरबीआई गवर्नर के रूप में कार्य किया, जिसमें उनके कार्यकाल के दौरान दिया गया तीन साल का विस्तार भी शामिल है। वह 1980-बैच के तमिलनाडु कैडर के पूर्व आईएएस अधिकारी हैं और उन्होंने दिसंबर 2018 में आरबीआई गवर्नर की भूमिका संभाली थी। आरबीआई गवर्नर के रूप में अपने कार्यकाल के दौरान, उन्होंने कई चुनौतियों के माध्यम से केंद्रीय बैंक की प्रतिक्रिया को आगे बढ़ाया, जिसमें वैश्विक आर्थिक अनिश्चितताएं जैसे कि कोविड -19 महामारी और रूस-यूक्रेन युद्ध शामिल थे।
