पश्चिम बंगाल में कोलकाता और उसके आसपास के इलाकों में रात भर हुई भारी बारिश से जनजीवन अस्त-व्यस्त हो गया। कई जगहों पर घुटनों तक पानी भर गया और यातायात ठप हो गया। आधी रात के बाद शुरू हुई बारिश के कारण सड़कें जलमग्न हो गईं और कोलकाता में कई घरों एवं आवासीय परिसरों में पानी घुस गया।
मंगलवार को कोलकाता और उसके आसपास के इलाकों में रात भर हुई भारी बारिश ने जनजीवन अस्त-व्यस्त कर दिया। कई जगहों पर घुटनों तक पानी भर गया और यातायात ठप हो गया। दुर्गा पूजा समारोह से कुछ ही दिन पहले, तस्वीरों में शहर के बड़े हिस्से जलमग्न दिखाई दे रहे थे। आधी रात के बाद शुरू हुई बारिश से सड़कें पानी में डूब गईं और शहर भर के कई घरों और आवासीय परिसरों में पानी घुस गया। भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (IMD) के अनुसार, अलीपुर में सुबह 5.30 बजे तक 239 मिमी बारिश दर्ज की गई, जो सुबह 6.30 बजे तक बढ़कर 247.4 मिमी हो गई। IMD बुलेटिन में 22 सितंबर की सुबह 6.30 बजे से 23 सितंबर की सुबह 6.30 बजे तक 24 घंटे की अवधि में 247.5 मिमी बारिश की पुष्टि की गई।
बारिश के कारम यातायात ठप

आधी रात के बाद शुरू हुई बारिश के कारण सड़कें जलमग्न हो गईं और कोलकाता में कई घरों एवं आवासीय परिसरों में पानी घुस गया। शहर में और अधिक बारिश होने की आशंका है।
भारत मौसम विज्ञान विभाग (आईएमडी) ने कहा है कि बंगाल की खाड़ी के उत्तर-पूर्व में बने कम दबाव के क्षेत्र के कारण दक्षिण बंगाल के कई जिलों में भारी बारिश होने की संभावना है।

कोलकाता नगर निगम (केएमसी) के अनुसार, शहर के दक्षिणी और पूर्वी हिस्सों में बारिश की तीव्रता ज्यादा रही। गरिया कामदहारी में कुछ ही घंटों में 332 मिलीमीटर बारिश हुयी, जबकि जोधपुर पार्क में 285 मिमी बारिश दर्ज की गई। कालीघाट में 280 मिमी, तोपसिया में 275 मिमी, बल्लीगंज में 264 मिमी, जबकि उत्तरी कोलकाता के थंटानिया में 195 मिमी बारिश हुयी।

आईएमडी ने कहा कि बंगाल की खाड़ी के उत्तरपूर्व में एक कम दबाव का क्षेत्र बन गया है और इसके उत्तर-पश्चिम की ओर बढ़ने की संभावना है, जिससे दक्षिण बंगाल के कुछ जिलों में हल्की से मध्यम बारिश के साथ भारी से बहुत भारी बारिश हो सकती है।
विभाग ने कहा कि बुधवार तक दक्षिण बंगाल के पूर्व मेदिनीपुर और पश्चिम मेदिनीपुर, दक्षिण 24 परगना, झारग्राम और बांकुड़ा जिलों में भारी बारिश होने की संभावना है।
उसने कहा कि 25 सितंबर के आसपास पूर्व-मध्य और उससे सटे उत्तरी बंगाल की खाड़ी में एक और नया निम्न दबाव का क्षेत्र बनने की संभावना है।
