इस टिप्पणी से कन्नड़ समर्थक कई संगठनों में आक्रोश फैल गया है। इन समूहों ने राज्य के विभिन्न हिस्सों जैसे बेलगावी, मैसूर, हुबली, बेंगलुरु आदि में हासन के खिलाफ विरोध प्रदर्शन किया। कर्नाटक के सबसे मुखर कन्नड़ संगठनों में से एक कर्नाटक रक्षण वेदिके (केआरवी) ने अब हासन की फिल्मों का पूरे कर्नाटक में बहिष्कार करने की धमकी दी है, जब तक कि वह बिना शर्त माफी नहीं मांगते।
तमिलनाडु में सत्तारूढ़ द्रमुक की सहयोगी मक्कल निधि मय्यम (एमएनएम) ने बुधवार को घोषणा की कि उसके अध्यक्ष कमल हासन 19 जून को होने वाले राज्यसभा चुनाव के लिए उसके उम्मीदवार होंगे। एमएनएम की प्रशासनिक समिति ने यहां एक बैठक में एक प्रस्ताव पारित कर पार्टी प्रमुख हासन को उच्च सदन के लिए अपना उम्मीदवार नामित किया और औपचारिक रूप से सहयोगी दलों से समर्थन का अनुरोध किया। द्रमुक अध्यक्ष और मुख्यमंत्री एम के स्टालिन द्वारा एमएनएम को राज्यसभा की एक सीट आवंटित करने की घोषणा किए जाने के तुरंत बाद पार्टी ने हासन को अपने उम्मीदवार के रूप में नामित किया। वर्ष 2024 के लोकसभा चुनाव से पहले द्रमुक और हासन की पार्टी एमएनएम ने एक समझौते पर हस्ताक्षर किए थे।
