भारतीय जनता पार्टी (भाजपा) की नेता लॉकेट चटर्जी ने आरोप लगाया कि कोलकाता के न्यू टाउन इलाके में पुलिस ने रामनवमी जुलूस को रोक दिया, जिसका नेतृत्व वह कर रही थीं, जिससे कार्यक्रम को अपना मार्ग बदलने पर मजबूर होना पड़ा। न्यू टाउन में राम मंदिर से शुरू हुआ जुलूस शहर के उत्तरी हिस्से में स्थित केस्टोपुर के पास बाधाओं का सामना करना पड़ा, जब उसने साल्ट लेक में प्रवेश करने की कोशिश की। पुलिस ने एयरपोर्ट को जोड़ने वाली वीआईपी सड़क पर बैरिकेड्स लगा दिए, जिससे चटर्जी और पुलिस अधिकारियों के बीच तीखी बहस हुई। जुलूस को रोके जाने के बाद चटर्जी को पुलिस कर्मियों से चर्चा करते हुए देखा गया और बाद में उन्होंने प्रतिभागियों से आगे के संघर्ष से बचने के लिए वैकल्पिक मार्ग अपनाने का आग्रह किया।

राज्य के एक अन्य हिस्से में विपक्ष के नेता शुभेंदु अधिकारी ने सोनाचूरा, गंगा, नंदीग्राम में राम मंदिर के भूमि पूजन और शिलान्यास समारोह में भाग लिया। उसी दिन, पश्चिम बंगाल के राज्यपाल सी.वी. आनंद बोस ने कोलकाता के सेंट्रल एवेन्यू में राम मंदिर का दौरा किया, पूजा-अर्चना की और सम्मान व्यक्त किया। पश्चिम बंगाल में रामनवमी के उत्सव ने राजनीतिक तनाव, धार्मिक उत्साह और एकता के कार्यों का मिश्रण उजागर किया है। अधिकारियों द्वारा उत्पन्न चुनौतियों के बावजूद विभिन्न राजनीतिक संबद्धताओं के नेता धार्मिक अनुष्ठानों में भाग लेने के लिए एक साथ आए हैं।
